I’m officially in love with this series! After reading ‘Naked in Death’ I wanted to take some time out before I picked up ‘Glory in Death‘. I’m kicking myself on why I didn’t read it earlier!
It is 2058, New York City. In a world where technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there’s only one place to hide a crime of passion-in the heart.
Even in the mid-twenty-first century, during a time when genetic testing usually weeds out any violent hereditary traits before they can take over, murder still happens. The first victim is found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second is murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas has no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provide Eve with a long list of suspects — including her own lover, Roarke.
Like I’d mentioned in my review for ‘Naked in Death’, the futuristic elements in this book are interesting and don’t distract from the storyline or the awesome characters. Eve Dallas and Roarke have become one of my favourite couples. I have developed a huge, serious literary crush on Roarke. Only if men like him existed! 😀 I’d come back again and again to this series, thanks to him. I love how he is tough, yet so tender and loves Eve unconditionally. Sigh…
On the flip side, I do like Eve Dallas. It’s more like a love/hate relationship to be honest. She is a complex character – tough, dedicated to justice, an excellent cop – who does not want to feel like she is depending on Roarke. This book sees her struggle with her emotions and eventually soften a little bit and warm up to him. I think they are both equally (emotionally) damaged which draws them both together and makes their developing relationship so endearing.
“I’m not going anywhere.” Gently, he stroked her back, cradled her head. Was there anything more astounding or more frightening to a man, he wondered, than a strong woman in tears?
Lets not forget, this book is as much about Roarke and Eve as it is about the mystery. This book is well-written and super easy to read and for the most part you won’t be able to guess who the culprit is. Personally, I found the suspect interrogations that Eve conducted very interesting. It shows her true character and you realise, she is really good at what she does.
Highly recommended, give it a crack people!
Happy Reading! 🙂
